Religious Profession Anniversary of Fr. Paul, Fr. Ray and Fr. Ken

Congratulations to our senior Marist priests, Fr. Paul, Fr. Ray, and Fr. Ken on their Religious Profession Anniversary!

On September 12, the Catholic Church celebrates the Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This feast has its origins in 1513 Cuenca, Spain and was extended to as far as the Kingdon of Naples in 1671. In 1683, the King of Poland, John Sobieski, led an army to the outskirts of Vienna to stop Muslim armies of Mohammed IV of Constantinople. Before the Battle of Vienna, Sobieski placed his troops under the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary and emerged victorious by thoroughly defeating the advancing Muslim army. To celebrate this victory, Pope Innocent XI then included this feast in the liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church.

The Feast of the Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary is also the most important day for the Society of Mary.

We are indeed thankful and proud to have Rev. Raymond Coolong, SM, Rev. Paul F. Morrissey, SM, and Rev. Kenneth Ridgeway, SM in our midst as priests in residence. Again, congratulations on your Religious Profession Anniversary and may you continue praying for all of us here at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Tampa, Florida!
