Blessing of the Animals

From today’s gospel reading:
“Jesus said to the crowds: This is how it is with the kingdom of God; it is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land and would sleep and rise night and day and through it all the seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how”.

Reflection:
It is the theme through Mark’s gospel; whenever Jesus speaks, or acts, the kingdom of God is at hand. He is not speaking about the next life, about “going to heaven”; focusing just on the afterlife, dilutes the power of what Jesus came to accomplish.

Rather, “the reign of God” is the gospel’s way of describing God working in our lives, right here and now.

So, we ask ourselves:
How can the parable of the seed scatterer help us when we don’t see immediate results from our good works? The parable encourages us to be patient; when it seems nothing is changing, we stay with our tasks because we know who is at our side, sowing seeds that will grow and come to harvest – eventually.
