From Father Hector’s Desk – June 6, 2021

From today’s gospel reading:

“This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many. Amen, I say to you, I shall not drink again the fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God”.

Reflection:

As Fr. Ron Rolheiser OMI explains it, “God puts us on this earth not just for leisure and enjoyment, but also to serve others and to give our lives over in unselfish duty… Once we accept this…the duties…will at times, consume us in ways that can for long periods of time take away our freedom, our leisure, our rest, and even our time to pray as we ideally should…But that response to duty is also a healthy ascetism…that can…push us beyond a self-centered life”.

So, we ask ourselves:

When today you receive the Bread of Life and the Cup of Salvation, would you promise Jesus that you will give up your life as a sacrifice of thanksgiving for all the blessings in your life, and as a service so that others can live?
