From today’s gospel reading:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord…Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing”
Reflection:
Quoting Isaiah, Jesus announces a “year acceptable to the Lord’. The people hearing it would know what he was announcing, a Jubilee year, when debts would be canceled, slaves set free, lands returned to their original owners and people given a chance to start again.
What Jesus was saying at the Synagogue of Nazareth was that now, with him, the Jubilee freedom would become a reality through his words and actions.
Now for us, Christ followers, is time for action. Today we have been sent by Jesus to act justly in large and small ways.
So, we ask ourselves:
Which necessary changes in our lives have we been procrastinating?
What can we do today to change that?
De la lectura del evangelio de hoy:
“El Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí, porque me ha ungido para llevar buenas nuevas a los pobres. Me ha enviado a proclamar la libertad a los cautivos y la recuperación de la vista a los ciegos, a dejar libres a los oprimidos, y a proclamar el año de gracia del Señor… Hoy, se cumple este pasaje de la Escritura que acaban de oír”.
Reflexión:
Citando a Isaías, Jesús anuncia un “año de gracia del Señor”. Las personas que lo escuchaban debían saber lo que estaba anunciando: un año jubilar, cuando las deudas serían canceladas, los esclavos liberados, las tierras devueltas a sus dueños originales y la gente tendría la oportunidad de comenzar de nuevo.
Lo que Jesús estaba diciendo en la Sinagoga de Nazaret era que ahora, con él, este jubileo se haría realidad a través de sus palabras y acciones.
Ahora, para nosotros los seguidores de Cristo es, también, tiempo para la acción. Hoy hemos sido enviados por Jesús para actuar con justicia en grandes o en pequeñas empresas.
Entonces, nos preguntamos:
¿Qué cambios necesarios en nuestras vidas hemos estado postergando?
¿Qué podemos hacer hoy para remediar esa situación?
