From today’s selection of the Book of Revelation:
“I, John, had a vision of a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation, race, people, and tongue. They stood before the throne and before the lamb, wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands…. these are the ones who have survived the time of great distress…”
Reflection:
We, modern Catholics live, as the early Christians did, in a suffering and divided world. International harmony ripped by war. Our own country torn apart by irreconcilable political parties.
Even the American Catholic Church is divided into factions over liturgy, authority, forms of ministry, doctrinal disputes, etc. – as was the Church of the early times. Among different Christian denominations there are even deeper rifts.
So, we act:
Let’s pull up a chair and sit beside our forbearers in faith, who heard these words of the book of Revelation for the first time, and with them hear the promise of a final gathering of all peoples before God.
We cannot live lives of indifference and isolation; not if we plan to go before “the one who sits on the throne” and be fed together at the table of the Lamb.
God is drawing us together and so we might, as well, live cooperating with that vision and promise of unity.

De la lectura de hoy del Libro de Apocalipsis:
“Yo, Juan, tuve una visión de una gran multitud, que nadie podía contar, de cada nación, raza, pueblo y lengua. Todos estaban de pie ante el trono y ante el cordero, vistiendo túnicas blancas y sosteniendo ramas de palma en sus manos… estos son los que han pasado por la gran persecución …”
Reflexión:
Nosotros, los católicos modernos, vivimos, como lo hicieron los primeros cristianos, en un mundo sufriente y dividido. La armonía internacional desgarrada por la guerra. Nuestro propio país destrozado por partidos políticos irreconciliables.
Incluso la Iglesia Católica Americana está dividida en facciones sobre la liturgia, la autoridad, las formas de ministerio, las disputas doctrinales, etc. – como lo estaba la Iglesia de los primeros tiempos. Entre las diferentes denominaciones cristianas hay divisiones aún más profundas.
Entonces, actuemos:
Tomemos una silla y sentémonos junto a nuestros antepasados en la fe, aquellos que escucharon estas palabras del libro de Apocalipsis por primera vez; y con ellos escuchemos la promesa de una reunión final de todos los pueblos ante Dios.
No podemos vivir vidas de indiferencia y aislamiento; no si planeamos ir ante “el que se sienta en el trono” y ser alimentados en la misma mesa del Cordero.
Dios nos está uniendo y esperando nuestra cooperación hacia esa visión y promesa de unidad.
