From today’s Gospel reading
“On the evening of the first day of the week, when the doors were locked where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews…”
Reflection
As we listen to today’s Gospel with the long view in mind, we’ll see that its message is much like the rest of the Bible; the story line is the same, God’s love is unquenchable.
God comes offering humanity forgiveness, peace, and integrity, over and over again; and that is hard for us to accept.
We want to earn our own way; we fool ourselves into thinking that we can handle our own failings and even judge other’s wrongdoings.
But our Evangelist assures us that the risen Christ can break through any barriers we put up, to protect ourselves from being overwhelmed by grace.
So, we ask ourselves
Do we realize that, as with Thomas, doubt is more valuable than superficial faith?
Are we hearing Thomas, in today’s Gospel, calling us to have the integrity and the humility to be forgiven and to forgive?
Do we realize that Christian faith is a long and costly journey into forgiveness and peace?

Reflexión
Si escuchamos el Evangelio de hoy con la visión a largo plazo en mente, veremos que su mensaje es muy parecido al resto de la Biblia; la historia es la misma, el amor de Dios es insaciable.
Dios viene ofreciendo a la humanidad perdón, paz e integridad, una y otra vez; y eso es difícil de aceptar para nosotros.
Queremos trazar nuestro propio camino; nos engañamos a nosotros mismos pensando que podemos manejar nuestras propias fallas e incluso juzgar las malas acciones de los demás.
Pero nuestro evangelista nos asegura que Cristo resucitado puede romper cualquier barrera que pongamos, para protegernos de ser abundantemente bendecidos por la gracia.
Entonces, nos preguntamos
¿Nos damos cuenta de que, como con Tomás, la duda es más valiosa que la fe superficial?
¿Estamos escuchando a Tomás, en el Evangelio de hoy, llamándonos a tener la integridad y la humildad necesarias para ser perdonados y perdonar?
¿Nos damos cuenta de que la fe cristiana es un largo y costoso viaje hacia el perdón y la paz?
