In the old tradition of the Church, the Christmas season was celebrated up until this day, the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. While current calendars have us taking down our trees at the Baptism of the Lord, today s Feast still holds great significance.
Jesus ’ parents were faithful to God s will, whether it be agreeing to a supernatural conception, following instructions given in dreams or fleeing to a foreign land. 40 days after His birth, they carried out the religious custom of bringing their child to the temple to dedicate him to the Lord. They brought a humble offering of either a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.
But perhaps the most surprising element is the fact that the members of the Holy Family are not the main characters in this story, but rather two elderly individuals who appear when the Christ Child is brought into the temple. Simeon and Anna, two righteous and devout people awaiting the redemption of Israel, were chosen as some of the first people whose eyes lit up upon seeing our Savior!
And that is why some still call this day Candlemas ” as well. They bless candles that symbolize Jesus as the Light of the World. Simeon and Anna experienced first hand the splendor of the Lord and went on to give thanks to God and speak about the child to all who would listen. The light that shone forth from the tiny Babe, went on to shine forth through them, for Jesus illuminates all the nations.
As we gaze upon the unwavering fidelity of Simeon and Anna, Mary and Joseph, what will our response be? Let us ask for the intercession of these saints to imitate their prayerful faithfulness. May we always be ready to follow God s will in our lives and present all that we are to Him in love.
Fidelidad inquebrantable a la voluntad de Dios

En la antigua tradición de la Iglesia, la época de Navidad se celebraba hasta el día de hoy con la Fiesta de la Presentación del Señor. Si bien en los calendarios actuales se nos indica que saquemos los árboles de Navidad en el Bautismo del Señor, la Fiesta de hoy todavía tiene un gran significado.
Los padres de Jesús fueron fieles a la voluntad de Dios, ya sea accediendo a una concepción sobrenatural, siguiendo instrucciones dadas en sueños o huyendo a una tierra extranjera. Cuarenta días después de su nacimiento, llevaron a cabo la costumbre religiosa de llevar a su hijo al templo para dedicarlo al Señor. Trajeron una humilde ofrenda de un par de tórtolas o dos pichones.
Pero quizás el elemento más sorprendente es el hecho de que los miembros de la Sagrada Familia no son los personajes principales de esta historia, sino dos personas mayores que aparecen cuando el Niño Jesús es llevado al templo. Simeón y Ana, dos personas justas y devotas que esperaban la redención de Israel, fueron elegidos como unas de las primeras personas cuyos ojos se iluminaron al ver a nuestro Salvador.
Por eso, algunos todavía llaman a este día el Día de la Candelaria ”. Bendicen las velas que simbolizan a Jesús como la Luz del Mundo. Simeón y Ana experimentaron de primera mano el esplendor del Señor y dieron gracias a Dios y hablaron del Niño a todos los que quisieran escuchar. La luz que brillaba del
pequeño Niño siguió brillando a través de ellos, porque Jesús ilumina a todas las naciones.
Al contemplar la fidelidad inquebrantable de Simeón y Ana, María y José, ¿cuál será nuestra respuesta? Pidamos la intercesión de estos santos para imitar su fidelidad en la oración. Que siempre estemos dispuestos a seguir la voluntad de Dios en nuestras vidas y presentarle todo lo que somos por amor.
