The Feast of Sto. Nino del Mundo will be celebrated at the 10:00 AM mass on Sunday, October 22, 2023, by Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and the Sto. Niño del Mundo Prayer Group. Father Hector Cruz, SM, will preside over the mass.
The veneration of Sto. Niño, the Holy Child, has been deeply integrated into Philippine Catholicism since the country’s discovery by the explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521. When the reigning chief was baptized into Christianity, Magellan presented a statue of the Child Jesus to the ruler, Rajah Humabon. This statue remains the oldest Christian artifact in the Philippines and has become one of the most revered cultural icons. Over the years, it has been replicated in various regions of the country and given various titles, including Sto. Niño del Mundo.
Sto. Niño del Mundo, the Holy Child of the World, is portrayed in regal attire, with a scepter in one hand and a golden globus cruciger in the other.
