Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, in cooperation with the OLPH Filipino Community, warmly invites you to the third night of Simbang Gabi 2025 on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at 7 PM. Join us for an evening of prayer, reflection, and the joyful spirit of the Filipino Christmas tradition.
“Simbang Gabi” is a devotional nine day series of Masses observed by Catholics and Aglipayans throughout the Philippines in anticipation of Christmas and in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Traditionally held from December 16 to December 24, these dawn Masses welcome the faithful into a quiet moment of prayer and hope as each new day begins. The final celebration on Christmas Eve, known as Misa de Gallo or “Rooster’s Mass,” beautifully concludes this cherished tradition.
Simbang Gabi began during the early years of Spanish rule in the Philippines as a thoughtful way to support farmers who started work before sunrise to avoid the intense heat in the fields. To serve the community, priests moved the usual evening novenas of the Hispanic world to the early morning hours. Over time, this simple act of kindness blossomed into a beloved expression of faith and fellowship.
Today, Simbang Gabi stands as one of the most treasured Christmas traditions in Philippine culture, a vibrant symbol of devotion, unity, and the spirit of sharing.
