Last weekend at Mass, we offered a special prayer during the prayers of the faithful that said the following: For those preparing to enter the Church at Easter who will come forward today for the Rite of Election, that they be blessed in these days of preparation, we pray to the Lord.
The Rite of Election is a beautiful moment when Catechumens (those who are to the receive the Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist – at the Easter Vigil) go to the Cathedral of St. Jude to present themselves to our bishop, Bishop Gregory Parkes. At the Rite of Election at the Cathedral of St. Jude, the Catechumens officially “elect” to receive their Sacraments of Initiation and the Bishop officially recognizes their decision and blesses their journey forward. They are no longer recognized as “Catechumens” but as “Elect” by the Church. This occurred last Sunday afternoon. It is an exciting step in their process to receive the Sacraments.
There were two Rites of Election at the Cathedral of St. Jude last Sunday because we as a diocese have 750 Catechumens (or should I say “Elect”) from 68 parishes. Our parish sent four Catechumens who have now become “Elect”. Please keep them in your prayers. Also, please pray for the youth in our parish who are preparing to receive First Communion and Confirmation in the Easter Season.

El fin de semana pasado, durante la Misa, ofrecimos una oración especial durante las oraciones de los fieles que decía lo siguiente: Por aquellos que se preparan para entrar en la Iglesia en Pascua y que hoy se presentarán para el Rito de Elección, para que sean bendecidos en estos días de preparación, roguemos al Señor.
El Rito de Elección es un momento hermoso en el que los Catecúmenos (aquellos que van a recibir los sacramentos de iniciación — el Bautismo, la Confirmación y la Eucaristía — en la Vigilia Pascual) acuden a la Catedral de San Judas para presentarse ante nuestro obispo, Gregory Parkes. Esto tuvo lugar el domingo por la tarde. En este Rito de Elección en la Catedral de San Judas, los Catecúmenos «eligen» oficialmente recibir los sacramentos de iniciación y el obispo reconoce oficialmente su decisión y bendice su camino hacia adelante. Ya no son reconocidos como «Catecúmenos», sino como «Elegidos» por la Iglesia. Es un paso emocionante en su proceso para recibir los sacramentos.
El domingo pasado se celebraron dos ritos de elección en la Catedral de San Judas porque nuestra diócesis cuenta con 750 Catecúmenos (o debería decir «Elegidos») de 68 parroquias. Nuestra parroquia envió a cuatro Catecúmenos que ahora se han convertido en «Elegidos». Por favor, reza por ellos. También te pido que reces por los jóvenes de nuestra parroquia que se están preparando para recibir la Primera Comunión y la Confirmación en la temporada de Pascua.
