From today’s Gospel
(Jesus) said in reply, “It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs”. She said, “Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters”. Then Jesus said to her in reply, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.” And the woman’s daughter was healed from that hour.
Reflection
The woman’s audacity in today’s gospel illustrates an important truth about faith: faith is not something passive; it’s something active and audacious, we could even say aggressive. Today’s gospel teaches us that faith involves proactiveness. It teaches us what the old saying says: “God helps those who help themselves.” St. Ignatius of Loyola used to say, “Pray as though every-thing depends on God, but act and be aggressive as if everything depends on us”.
So, we ask ourselves
If peace is to come to our world, if the hungry among us are to be fed, it he homeless among us are to be housed, it the naked among us are to be clothed, if families are to be places of love, if our children are to grow up wholesome, we must do more than turn to God with a fervent prayer.

Del Evangelio de hoy
(Jesús) dijo en respuesta: “No es correcto tomar la comida de los niños y tirarla a los perros”. Ella dijo: “Por favor, Señor, porque incluso los perros comen las sobras que caen de la mesa de sus amos”. Entonces Jesús le respondió: “¡Oh mujer, grande es tu fe! Que se cumpla lo que tú deseas”. Y la hija de la mujer fue sanada a partir de esa hora.
Reflexión
La audacia de la mujer en el evangelio de hoy ilustra una verdad importante sobre la fe: la fe no es algo pasivo; es algo activo, audaz y de cierta forma podríamos decir hasta agresivo. El evangelio de hoy nos enseña que la fe es proactiva. Nos enseña lo que dice el viejo refrán: “Dios ayuda a los que se ayudan a sí mismos”. San Ignacio de Loyola solía decir: “Ora como si todo dependiera de Dios, pero actúa y sé agresivo como si todo dependiera de nosotros”.
Entonces, nos preguntamos
Si la paz ha de llegar a nuestro mundo, si los hambrientos entre nosotros han de ser alimentados, si los desamparados entre nosotros han de ser alojados, si los desnudos entre nosotros han de ser vestidos, si las familias han de ser lugares de amor, si nuestros hijos han de crecer sanos, debe-mos hacer algo más que hacer una oración fervorosa.
