From today’s gospel reading
This is my beloved Son, with whom I am pleased; listen to him – When the disciples heard this, they fell, prostrate and were very much afraid. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and do not be afraid”. And when the disciples raised their eyes, they saw no one else but Jesus alone.
Reflection
The disciples suddenly saw Jesus in a brilliantly different light. There in the mountain, they got a glimpse of the very core of his being. They saw the Jesus they have known even as his face shined. There was no image of God, all they knew about God in this scene came from the voice which called Jesus the beloved. But when they raised their eyes there was no more the voice and they saw Jesus alone, as they knew him before his transfiguration. The glimpse of eternity the disciples saw in Jesus, helped them grasping the deepest mean-ing of their everyday history.
The Gospel offers the human Jesus as the visible image of God.
So, we ask ourselves
Do we understand not only that Jesus is the image of God, but that we are called to be the same?

Este es mi Hijo amado, con quien me complazco; Escúchenlo – Cuando los discípulos oyeron esto, cayeron, postrados y tuvieron mucho miedo. Pero Jesús vino y los tocó, diciendo: “Levántense y no tengan miedo”. Y cuando los discípulos levantaron los ojos, no vieron a nadie más que a Jesús solo.
Reflexión
Los discípulos de repente vieron a Jesús bajo una luz brillantemente diferente. Allí, en la montaña, vislumbra-ron el núcleo mismo de su ser. Vieron al Jesús que habían conocido, pero con su rostro brillando. Los discípu-los no vieron ninguna imagen de Dios, todo lo que pudieron captar acerca de Dios en esta escena provenía de la voz que llamaba a Jesús el amado. Pero cuando levantaron los ojos ya no había voz y vieron a Jesús solo, como lo habían conocido antes de su transfiguración. La visión de la eternidad en Jesús de la que los discípulos se pudieron percatar les ayudó a captar el significado más profundo de su historia cotidiana.
El Evangelio ofrece al Jesús humano como imagen visible de Dios.
Entonces, nos preguntamos
¿Entendemos no sólo que Jesús es la imagen de Dios, sino que estamos llamados a ser también imágenes de Dios?
¿Entendemos que la meta de la revelación del Señor es persuadirnos a nosotros, sus seguidores, de que noso-tros también debemos brillar con la belleza del amor de Dios?
