From today’s Gospel reading, “As Jesus passed by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother casting their nets into the sea… Jesus said to them, ‘Come after me and I will make you fishers of people’. Then they abandoned their nets and followed him”.
Think:
We hear Jesus’ invitation, “Come follow me”. We hear the same invitation Jesus made to those fishermen and like them, we put other considerations aside to follow him. Each day, as life presents us with choices. What choices can I make to show my desire to follow Christ? What changes do I have to make in my life to follow him more fully?
Act:
Shall we buy less for ourselves and give more to the poor? Shall we help someone in need?
Have we thought that our local Church, the Diocese of St. Petersburg, is also in need?
The diocese of St. Petersburg needs our full participation by supporting its ministries, through the Catholic Ministry Appeal program. Pretty soon, we will have the opportunity, during our weekend services, to fill out a commitment card, as a way to respond to bishop Gregory Parkes’ solicitation.

De la lectura del Evangelio de hoy: “Al pasar Jesús por el mar de Galilea, vio a Simón y a su hermano echando las redes en el mar… Jesús les dijo: “Vengan en pos de mí y les haré pescadores de hombres”. Entonces dejaron las redes y lo siguieron”.
Pensar:
Escuchamos la invitación de Jesús: “Ven, y sígueme”. Escuchamos la misma invitación que Jesús hizo a esos pescadores y, como ellos, dejamos de lado otras consideraciones para seguirlo. Cada día, a medida que la vida nos presenta opciones. ¿Qué decisiones puedo tomar que muestren mi deseo de seguir a Cristo? ¿Qué cambios tengo que hacer en mi vida para seguirlo más plenamente?
Actuar:
¿Gastaremos menos para nosotros y daremos más a los pobres? ¿Nos podremos decidir a ayudar a al-guien que lo necesite? ¿Nos hemos puesto a pensar que nuestra Iglesia local, la diócesis de San Peters-burgo, también está necesitada?
La diócesis de San Petersburgo necesita ahora de nuestra plena participación, apoyando sus ministeri-os, a través de la Campaña de los Ministerios Católicos. Muy pronto, tendremos la oportunidad, durante nuestros servicios de fin de semana, de llenar una tarjeta de compromiso, y de esa manera responder a la solicitud del obispo Gregory Parkes.
