From today’s Gospel reading
“Come to me, all who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”
Reflection
Jesus is the perfect image of what you and I were born to be. He stands spiritually straight and beautiful. When we look at Jesus, our heart beats faster, our body tingles, and we begin to dream.
But there is a problem, our defects keep us from being the kind of person we were meant to be. We are like an unfinished copy of Jesus. We are incomplete, we are still under construction. Whether we become like Jesus or not, whether our story will have a happy ending, is something still to be determined.
So, we ask ourselves
What can we do to guarantee that our story will have a happy ending?
By studying and pondering Jesus.
How do we go about standing before Jesus and studying him?
First, we can begin doing what a lot of serious Christians are doing today. We can begin making Bible reading and prayer a greater part of our daily lives.
Second, we can begin listening to the gospel reading at Mass in a more profound way, listening to it not only with the ears of the body but with the ears of the mind, of the soul and of the heart.

“Venid a mí, todos los que trabajáis y sois agobiados, y yo os haré descansar. Tomad mi yugo sobre vosotros y aprended de mí, porque soy manso y humilde de corazón; y encontraréis descanso para vosotros mismos. Porque mi yugo es suave, y mi carga ligera”.
Reflexión
Jesús es la imagen perfecta de lo que deberíamos ser. Él es espiritualmente recto y hermoso. Cuando miramos a Jesús, nuestro corazón late más rápido, sentimos un hormigueo en nuestro cuerpo y comenzamos a soñar.
Pero hay un problema, nuestros defectos nos impiden ser el tipo de persona que estábamos destinados a ser. Somos como una copia inacabada de Jesús. Estamos incompletos, todavía estamos en construcción. Si llegamos a ser como Jesús o no, si nuestra historia tendrá un final feliz, es algo aún por determinar.
Entonces, nos preguntamos
¿Qué podemos hacer para garantizar que nuestra historia tenga un final feliz?
Estudiando y meditando a Jesús.
¿Cómo hacemos para presentarnos ante Jesús y estudiarlo?
Primero, podemos comenzar a hacer lo que muchos cristianos serios están haciendo hoy. Podemos comenzar a hacer de la lectura de la Biblia y la oración una parte más importante de nuestra vida diaria.
En segundo lugar, podemos comenzar a escuchar la lectura del evangelio en la Misa de una manera más profunda, escuchándola no solo con los oídos del cuerpo sino con los oídos de la mente, del alma y del corazón.
