From today’s gospel reading:
“…Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Let us cross to the other side’… A violent squall came up and waves were breaking over the boat…He woke up, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Quiet! Be still! ‘The wind ceased and there was great calm”.
Reflection:
When Jesus asked his disciples to “cross to the other side”, it was not just a change of physical place that they are about to experience. They are going with him to a foreign place, leaving their accustomed lives, crossing over the water to the unfamiliar.
Does his request hint at the future mission of the church to go outside our “comfort zone” and possibly face opposition and even stormy seas in places and among people who are different, even opposed to us?
So, we ask:
If Jesus is with us in our “boat”, the Church, has he the power to speak a word of calm that can help us overcome the daily turbulent winds and evoke trust in us?
Shouldn’t these manifestations of his power in our lives and in our world, produce “great awe” and peace in us?

De la lectura del evangelio de hoy:
“… Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: ‘Pasemos al otro lado’… Se levantó una violenta borrasca y las olas rompían sobre el barco… Se despertó, reprendió al viento y dijo al mar: “¡Silencio! ¡Quédate quieto! “El viento cesó y hubo una gran calma”.
Reflexión:
Cuando Jesús indica a sus discípulos que “cruzaran al otro lado”, no era solo un cambio de lugar físico lo que están a punto de experimentar. Van con él a un lugar extraño, abandonando sus rutinas acostumbradas, cruzaban el lago hacia lo desconocido.
¿Será que su petición insinuaba la futura misión de la iglesia, de salir de nuestra “zona de confort” y posiblemente enfrentar oposición e incluso mares tormentosos en lugares y entre personas diferentes e incluso opuestas a nosotros?
Por lo tanto, nos preguntamos:
Si Jesús está con nosotros en nuestra “barca” (la Iglesia), ¿tiene El el poder de decir una palabra con autoridad que pueda ayudarnos a superar los vientos turbulentos cotidianos y suscitar confianza en nosotros?
¿No deberían las múltiples manifestaciones de su poder en nuestras vidas y en nuestro mundo, producir dentro de nosotros constantemente asombro y paz?
