From today’s Gospel
When Jesus heard they had thrown him out, he found him and said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” He answered and said, “Who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?” Jesus said to him, “You have seen him, the one speaking with you is he.” He said, “I do believe, Lord,” and he worshipped him. Then Jesus said, “I came into this world for judgment, so that those who do not see might see, and those who do see might become blind”.
Some of the pharisees who were with him heard this and said to him, “Surely we are not also blind, are we?” Jesus said to him, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you are saying, We see, so your sin remains”.
Reflection
We cannot predict or define God’s saving presence in the world. The Pharisees couldn’t imagine that God was present in Jesus, or that the blind man could discern the presence and actions of God better than they could. God is bigger and greater than any of us could imagine. The more profound darkness is to claim to have all the answers. Adapted for our purposes, this Lent we might pose the blind man’s question this way, “Who are you Lord, that we might believe” for we always are in need of more light – lighter on the “subject!”.
So, we ask ourselves
Do I see Christ’s presence in people and places that surprise me?
What person (s) has helped me “see’ and grow in faith?

Cuando Jesús oyó que lo habían echado (al que había sido ciego), lo encontró y dijo: “¿Crees en el Hijo del Hombre?” Él respondió y dijo: “¿Quién es él, señor, para que yo crea en él?” Jesús le dijo: “Lo has visto, el que habla contigo es él”. Él dijo: “Yo creo, Señor”, y lo adoró. Entonces Jesús dijo: “Vine a este mundo para emitir juicio, para que los que no ven puedan ver, y los que sí ven se vuelvan ciegos”.
Algunos de los fariseos que estaban con él oyeron esto y le dijeron: “Ciertamente no somos también ciegos, ¿verdad?” Jesús le dijo: “Si estuvieran ciegos, no tendrían pecado; pero ahora están diciendo: Nosotros vemos, así que su pecado permanece”.
Reflexión
No podemos predecir o definir la presencia salvadora de Dios en el mundo. Los fariseos no podían imaginar que Dios estaba presente en Jesús, o que el ciego podía discernir la presencia y las acciones de Dios mejor que ellos. Dios es más grande, más grande de lo que cualquiera de nosotros podría imaginar. La oscuridad más profunda es afirmar que se tienen todas las respuestas. Adaptados a nuestros propósitos, esta Cuaresma podríamos plantear la pregunta del ciego de esta manera: “¿Quién eres tú, Señor? para que creamos”, porque siempre necesitamos más luz que nos ilumine este asunto”.
Entonces, nos preguntamos
¿Veo la presencia de Cristo en personas y lugares que me sorprenden?
¿Qué persona(s) me ha(n) ayudado a “ver” y crecer en la fe?
