From today’s reading of the Acts of the Apostles
“As the number of disciples continued to grow, the Hellenists complained against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution”.
Reflection
The Christian community was growing rapidly and as it grew its members were addressing emerging tensions. Then and now, it seems, language, political and cultural differences can cause tensions, even discrimination in church communities. Tensions between different groups have the potential to split the church, and so the community leaders must address them expeditiously. That was the case of the early church so, the apostles asked to be presented with seven reputable men; they laid their hands on them and commissioned them to “serve the tables”. They were the first ordained deacons.
If we want our parish community to grow, we should have enough members involved in the different parish ministries, always acting with charity and wisdom, so to avoid tensions within.
So, I ask myself
Would I like to accept some role in this church, to be involved in some ministry?
In which area?
(Liturgical duties, maintenance and cleaning of the buildings, religious education programs, visiting the sick, prayer groups, caring for the poor, funds raising, other).

Reflexión
La comunidad cristiana estaba creciendo rápidamente y, a medida que crecía, sus miembros tenían que resolver las tensiones emergentes. Entonces y ahora, al parecer, las diferencias lingüísticas, políticas y culturales pueden causar tensiones, incluso causando discriminación dentro de las comunidades eclesiásticas. Las tensiones entre los diferentes grupos tienen el potencial de dividir a la iglesia, por lo que los líderes de la comunidad deben abordarlas rápidamente. Ese era el caso de la iglesia primitiva, por lo que los apóstoles pidieron que se les presentaran siete hombres de buena reputación; impusieron sus manos sobre ellos y los comisionaron para “servir las mesas”, ellos fueron los primeros diáconos.
Si queremos que nuestra comunidad parroquial crezca, debemos tener suficientes miembros involucrados en los diferentes ministerios parroquiales, siempre actuando con caridad y sabiduría, para evitar tensiones internas.
