From today’s gospel reading
“A man going on a journey called his servants and entrusted his possessions to them. To one he gave five talents; to another, two; to a third, one – to each according to his ability”.
Reflection
The first and the second servants did well, the third did poorly. What’s the deeper meaning behind this parable? Who is the man who went on the long trip? Who are the servants? What does the money stand for?
The man who went on the trip is Jesus, who ascended to heaven after his resurrection. He will return at the end of the world. The servants stand for you and me. The money stands for our God-given talents. In his absence, Jesus expects us to use our talents to build up his kingdom.
So, we ask ourselves
Are we using our talents in a productive and responsibly way? Because we’re going to be accountable for what we do with them. And that day of accountability may be closer than we think.

De la lectura del evangelio de hoy
“Un hombre que iba de viaje llamó a sus siervos y les confió sus bienes. A uno le dio cinco talentos; a otro, dos; a un tercero, uno – a cada uno según su capacidad”.
Reflexión
Al primero y al segundo siervo les fue bien, al tercero le fue mal. ¿Cuál es el significado más profundo detrás de esta parábola? ¿Quién es el hombre que emprendió el largo viaje? ¿Quiénes son los sirvientes? ¿Qué representa el dinero?
El hombre que realizó el viaje es Jesús, quien ascendió al cielo después de su resurrección. Regresará en el fin del mundo. Los sirvientes representan a ti y a mí. El dinero representa los talentos que Dios nos ha dado. En su ausencia, Jesús espera que usemos nuestros talentos para construir su reino.
Entonces nos preguntamos
¿Estamos utilizando nuestros talentos de manera productiva y responsable? Porque vamos a ser responsables de lo que hagamos con ellos. Y ese día de rendición de cuentas puede estar más cerca de lo que pensamos.
