From today’s Gospel reading
A man had two sons. He came to the first and said, “Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.” He said in reply, “I will not”, but afterwards changed his mind and went. The man came to the other son and gave the same order. He said in reply, “Yes, sir” but did not go. Which of the two dis his father’s will?” They answered, “The first”.
Reflection
Did you notice in today’s parable there is no mention of how things turned out when the first son changed his mind and went into the vineyard? How hard of a worker was he when he finally got to the vineyard to work? Did he do what was expected of him? There are no standards or measurements of success laid out for us in this story.
The emphasis is just on someone who changed his mind, who in the end, responded to an invitation. Maybe that is what is leading to God: our desire to serve and our attempts, if at times feeble, to respond – while we leave plenty of room for God to step in and fill in the gaps: The big ones and the small ones.
So, we ask ourselves
Shall we pray today for healing from past hurts caused by those who lied to us or disappointed us?
And shall we ask for the ability to forgive them?

De la lectura del Evangelio de hoy
Un hombre tenía dos hijos. Se acercó al primero y le dijo: “Hijo, sal y trabaja en la viña hoy”. Él dijo en respuesta: “No lo haré”, pero luego cambió de opinión y fue. El hombre se acercó al otro hijo y le dio la misma orden. Él dijo en respuesta: “Sí, señor”, pero no fue. ¿Cuál de los dos hizo la voluntad de su padre?” Ellos respondieron: “El primero”.
Reflexión
¿Han notado que en la parábola de hoy no se menciona cómo resultaron las cosas, cuan-do el primer hijo cambió de opinión y fue a trabajar a la viña? ¿Qué tan duro trabajó cuando finalmente llegó al viñedo? ¿Hizo lo que se esperaba de él? No hay estándares o medidas de éxito establecidos en esta historia.
El énfasis está solo en alguien que cambió de opinión, y que al final, respondió a una invi-tación. Tal vez eso es lo que nos conduce a Dios: nuestro deseo de servir y nuestros inten-tos, aunque a veces débiles, de responder; dejando también bastante espacio para que Dios intervenga y llene los vacíos de nuestro corazón: los grandes y los pequeños.
Entonces, nos preguntamos
¿Oraremos hoy por la curación de las heridas pasadas causadas por aquellos que nos mintieron o nos decepcionaron?
¿Debemos pedir la capacidad de perdonarlos?
