“Jesus said to the chief priests and the elders of the people… therefore, I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its fruit”.
Reflection
Did Jesus intend this parable to have meaning only for the chief priests and the Pharisees? Not at all. He intended it to have meaning for us, also. And what does the parable say to us? First, it summarizes the complete biblical story of salvation. Second, the parable affirms that Jesus is the Son of God. Third, the parable affirms that Jesus’ apostles are the new leaders of God’s people. And, finally, the parable teaches us about od’s patience with us, and our accountability to God.
So, we ask ourselves
How do we react when we read the parables of the Gospel? Can we relate ourselves with their various characters?
According to Jesus, what differentiates the first leasing of the vineyard (referring to the Old Testament) with the second leasing (referring to the New Covenant)? Why Jesus told the chief priests and the Pharisees that the kingdom of God was going to be taken away from them and was going to be given to a people that would produce its fruits?

“Jesús dijo a los principales sacerdotes y a los ancianos del pueblo… por lo tanto, os digo, el reino de Dios os será quitado y dado a un pueblo que producirá su fruto”.
Reflexión
¿Tenía Jesús la intención de que esta parábola tuviera significado sólo para los principales sacerdotes y los fari-seos? No, Él pretendía que también tuviera significado para nosotros. ¿Y qué nos dice esta parábola? Primero, resume toda la historia bíblica de la salvación. Segundo, la parábola afirma que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios. Tercero, la parábola afirma que los apóstoles de Jesús son los nuevos líderes del pueblo de Dios. Y, finalmente, la parábola nos enseña acerca de la paciencia que Dios tiene con nosotros, y las cuentas que vamos a tener que dar a Dios.
Entonces, nos preguntamos
¿Cómo reaccionamos cuando leemos las parábolas del Evangelio? ¿Podemos relacionarnos con sus diversos per-sonajes?
Según Jesús, ¿qué diferencia hay entre los primeros arrendatarios de la viña (refiriéndose al Antiguo Testamento) con el segundo grupo de arrendatarios (refiriéndose a la Nueva Alianza)? ¿Por qué Jesús les dijo a los principales sacerdotes y a los fariseos que el reino de Dios les iba a ser quitado y que iba a ser dado a un pueblo que produciría sus frutos?
