From today’s Gospel
“I tell you, in just the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance”.
Reflection
The father does three things in today’s parable:
First, he embraces his son, welcoming him back fully. Second, the father puts shoes on his son’s feet. Showing that way that he is forgiving him fully. Third, the father gives his son a ring. Putting a ring on his son’s finger shows that the father restores him fully to the status he had before he ran away. Interesting the contrast between the father’s lavish forgiveness and the older son’s lack of forgiveness.
So, we ask ourselves
What does all this say to us here today? I think it says two things. First, it says God will always forgive us after we sin. Second, it says that we should forgive others as God has forgiven us.

“Os digo que así habrá más alegría en el cielo por un pecador que se arrepiente que por noventa y nueve justos que no tienen necesidad de arrepentimiento”.
Reflexión
El padre hace tres cosas en la parábola de hoy:
Primero, abraza a su hijo, dándole la bienvenida de regreso. Segundo, el padre pone zapatos en los pies de su hijo. Mostrando de esa manera que lo está perdonando por completo. Tercero, el padre le da un anillo a su hijo. Poner un anillo en el dedo de su hijo muestra que el padre lo devuelve completamente al estado que tenía antes de huir. Interesante el contraste entre el generoso perdón del padre y la falta de perdón del hijo mayor.
Entonces, nos preguntamos
¿Qué nos dice todo esto aquí hoy? Creo que dice dos cosas. Primero, dice que Dios siempre nos perdonará después de que pequemos. Segundo, dice que debemos perdonar a los demás como Dios nos ha perdonado a nosotros.
