From today’s gospel reading
“Am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am generous? Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last”.
Reflection
Today’s gospel invites us to stop comparing ourselves to other people. It invites us to accept ourselves as we are. It invites us to follow Paul’s advice to the Galatians (6:4): “Each one should judge in his own conduct. If it is good, then he can be proud of what he himself has done, without having to compare it with what someone else has done.” Ultimately, the important thing in this life is not what other people think of us, or how hard we work in God’s vineyard. The important thing is what God thinks of us, and the love that motivates our work.
So, we ask ourselves
We often resent the good fortune of others because we are jealous of them. But what makes us jealous of them? One reason is that we think they are better off than we are.
We think they have more money than we have. We think they are better looking than we are. We think they are more talented than we are. We think they are more successful than we are.

De la lectura del evangelio de hoy
“¿No soy libre de hacer lo que quiera con mi propio dinero? ¿Tienen envidia porque soy generoso? Así, les digo: el último será el primero, y el primero será el último”.
Reflexión
El evangelio de hoy nos invita a dejar de compararnos con otras personas. Nos invita a aceptarnos tal como somos. Nos invita a seguir el consejo de Pablo a los Gálatas (6:4): “Cada uno debe juzgar su propia conducta. Si es buena, entonces puede estar orgulloso de lo que él mismo ha hecho, sin tener que compararlo con lo que alguien más ha hecho”. En última instancia, lo importante en esta vida no es lo que otras personas piensen de no-sotros, o lo duro que trabajamos en la viña de Dios. Lo importante es lo que Dios piensa de nosotros, y el amor que motiva nuestro trabajo.
Entonces, nos preguntamos
A menudo nos molesta la buena fortuna de los demás porque estamos celosos de ellos.
Pero ¿qué nos pone celosos?
Una razón es que pensamos que están en mejor condición que nosotros.
Creemos que ellos tienen más dinero que nosotros. Creemos que son mejor parecidos que nosotros. Creemos que tienen más éxito que nosotros.
